Civil Air Patrol, USA
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the civilian auxiliary of the US Air Force with more than 60,000 volunteer members that train for, and carry out disaster relief, and search and rescue missions throughout the USA.
“We were looking for best value for money. The Tait T2020 is the first of a new breed of low-cost solutions becoming available to federal frequency users. These new low-cost radios are the result of a fresh new competitive market we see developing and the results are exciting”
Malcolm Kyser, CAP Chief of Communications.
The Challenge
CAP had very specific performance requirements for its radio communications and chose the modified Tait T2020 mobile radio as the first new narrowband VHF FM radio for use in its nationwide emergency services programme.
The Solution
The modification of Tait's T2020 provided CAP with the ability to switch each radio from wideband to narrowband. Another key enhancement was to increase the T2020's already high selectivity. And, the modular design of the T2020 mobile allows additional functions to be added in the future.
CAP will be in the market for a significant amount of NTIA (National Telecommunications Information Administration) compliant narrowband equipment over the next six to eight years and the flexibility and reliability of the Tait T2020 makes it an effective long-term alternative for all federal agencies.
