Conventional / QS² Simulcast

Tait Radio Communications offers a range of conventional radio systems tailored to meet a wide variety of customers' needs. Forming the core of these solutions is a robust group of well proven products which include base stations/repeaters, mobiles and portable terminals.

With over 40 years experience designing and supplying conventional  and QS² solutions into public safety applications Tait can provide everything from an all-informed, open channel system to a closed dispatch controlled network. The coverage can be from as small as a town up to a whole nationwide network.

Conventional radio can be used to support broadcast, group or individual voice calls as well as a number of data transfer formats. Tait offer over the air data rates from 1.2kb/s to 12kb/s within a 12.5 kHz channel format.

Conventional radio systems come in a variety of formats including:

Direct terminal-to-terminal communications

Direct terminal-to-terminal operation is normally used where the required coverage is limited. This may be used for local incident management. This is the most basic form of mobile radio and is often overlooked until major incidents or natural disasters occur. Vehicle-mounted terminals can have a range of many miles when used in this format. At this level both voice and data messages can be supported.

Base station/repeater based communications

When greater range is required, base stations or repeaters are located at appropriate high spots and controlled either directly from terminals or by control circuits (backhaul) from a dispatch center. Networks can be built up using a number of base stations to cover a wide area. Tait can provide a range of dispatch center equipment including control equipment, consoles and recorders.

QS² Simulcast networks

In some applications it is not practical to use a number of channels to cover a wide area where low user terminal numbers are expected. In this case a TaitNet QS² Simulcast solution is ideal for the job. QS² offers high quality communications to large area with only one radio channel being used.

Applications that can be supported on TaitNet conventional solutions include:

  • Voice calls to individuals, groups and fleet wide broadcast
  • Data messages to and from vehicles permitting AVL applications
  • Wide area solutions such a QS² Simulcast
  • Single vehicle unit or multiple terminal configurations
